ree

Following their first win of the season, the Cesar Chavez Titans are opening league play against one of the South Sequoia League’s hottest teams in the Wasco Tigers.

The Titans currently hold a 1-4 overall record, having just beat South 19-16 in mid-season thriller before they headed into the bye week.

The win included Chavez’s first touchdowns of the season, with sophomore running back Keven Lopez snagging a rushing touchdown, and senior defensive back Jacob Castellanos scoring on a punt-return.

As the game headed into overtime, the Titans battled and senior lineman Orlando Martinez stepped up to make the game winning field goal and solidified Chavez’s win.

Despite posting their best performance of the season, the Titan’s opponent is still heavily favored in the team's league opener.

The Tigers are currently 4-1, and have an impressive list of wins at the season's point. Having beat teams such as Porterville, Ridgeview and Tehachapi. And their only defeat came in a one-point loss to Tulare Western in their final non-league game.

Wasco’s senior running backs Hammie Lopez and Jayven Hernandez have rushed for more than a combined 1100 yards through their first five games, leading an offensive attack that averages 35 points a game.

This offensive firepower has already been proven against teams ranked in divisions above them, so Chavez is going to need to play a near-perfect game to hang in against the Tigers.
