Ivan Garza, a former standout football player at Robert F. Kennedy High School, passed away Wednesday morning. He was 25.
An integral part of the Thunderbirds 2018 Central Section Championship, Garza starred as the team's left tackle, earning All-Area honors during his senior season. He captained an offensive line that led a rushing attack totaling more than 5200 rushing yards en route to the team's 13-2 overall record and an unforgettable upset against an undefeated Shafter Generals squad during the championship game.

Following an illustrious career at Kennedy, Garza committed to football at the division 1 FCS level at Sacramento State. In four years with the Hornets he made 36 starts as an offensive tackle. He earned All-Big Sky honors during his final season in 2023.

Garza is remembered fondly by all of his teammates and coaches. Many of which have having said so over social media throughout today. Kennedy Football Head Coach Mario Millan posted through the team's social media accounts.
“The Thunderbird Family lost a young man too soon. Our condolences go out to the Family of Ivan Garza. He was a success story out of RFK and Delano as a whole. He showed that big things can come from small places. His heart was as huge as his size. Rest easy young man, you are at peace..” said Millan.
Garza was described as a “gentle giant” and a charismatic individual that had the ability to light up any room he was a part of.
"He had the ability to befriend anyone he met and treat them like a long-time friend. It was an honor to be able to coach him in football and track." said Kennedy assistant coach Jonathan Nunez.

To many that knew him, Garza was much more than just a football player. He was a friend, teammate and former staple of the Thunderbird community during his high school tenure.
"He was a great student, and very well liked by his peers, faculty and staff. Very knowledgeable and willing to give back to the community and the RFK family. He was a mentor to so many of our kids in the community, and his smile was contagious." said Natalie Hernandez Fragoso.

Garza is survived by his mother and sisters. Memorial services are yet to be announced. His loss weighs a heavy toll on the entire Delano community, and we here at Delano Sports Media wish he may rest in peace.
